BIOGRAPHY

For biography sake, it can be said that Sureel (b. Muktsar, Punjab, India, 1967) is a self-taught Austrian-Indian artist based in Vienna with his studio and gallery in Gidderbaha, Punjab, India. Since 2015, his artworks have been widely exhibited in India and are collected internationally.

But in reality, he doesn't know who he is. He is still in search of himself. He was born in 1967 at longitude 74-31 east and latitude 30-26 north; the place is currently called Shri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab, India. His parents gave him a name. After that, everybody called him Sureel Kumar, or by his nick name, Dimpy or Dimple.

Sureel loves to work with wood. His artworks are a fusion of his unique style with the wonderful work of Mother Nature in the form of unique, beautiful, and endless patterns of the wood grain.

Sureel is fascinated with the art of ancient civilizations and the unknown yet great artists of Khajuraho, Konark, Egypt, Sumer, Mehenjo Daro, Hampi, and Ratnagiri that depict amazing petroglyphs and the finest art in the world.

Sureel is an avid traveller and speaks Hindi, Punjabi, English, and German. He enjoys swimming, cooking, reading, listening to music, and sometimes sitting silently, witnessing dancing trees, flowers, birds, insects, and animals.
