KONKAN PETROGLYPS - ANCIENT ART CARVED ON THE ROCKS 

I don't know why, but I am attracted towards the art of ancient civilizations. Once I was searching about Indus Valley Civilization on the net and I came to know about ancient Petroglyphs of Konkan belt near Ratnagiri and Rajapur in Maharashtra, India. I was very much surprised to see the art by unknown artist of an unknown civilization that seems minimum 14000 years old. Many artworks just look like contemporary and abstract artworks with great artistic proportions. Most of them are very huge in size. You need to have an areal view to get the real feeling of these petroglyphs. When I looked at these petroglyphs, I got a strong feeling to create them again in the form of wood mosaics and wood murals.

I came to know about Sudhir Risbood ji, who first recognized these petroglyps in the vicinity of Ratnagiri and Rajapur. I felt a great pull to see these amazing rock art. And ultimately in February 2020 I, along with my three friends went to Ratnagiri, where Sudhir Risbood, Dhananjay Marathe, Makarand Kesarkar and Sushant ji guided us to explore all the petroglyph sites around Ratnagiri and Rajapur. I was very much impressed by the dedication of Sudhir Risbood and his team researched and catalogued hundreds of Petroglyph sites near Ratnagiri and Rajapur without the help of government. Their hard work is still going on.

There I got the real impression of great artists who made these mysterious petroglyphs thousands of year in the past. And that was enough to start a series on these wonderful petroglyphs.
